La Braseria restaurateur joining Oyster Wharf complex

James Morse, the developer of the planned Oyster Wharf development, has welcomed the latest business to sign up to the Mumbles waterfront venture.

Daniel Tercero, the man behind Swansea restaurants La Braseria and La Parrilla, is planning to be part of Oyster Wharf, which already has restaurant businesses Le Bistrot Pierre and Prezzo, cafe bar Loungers and fashion and homeware company Seasalt on board.

Mr Morse, director of Nextcolour Developments, said: “We are delighted that such a hugely popular local restaurateur (as Daniel Tercero) is joining us at Oyster Wharf.”

Mr Tercero said his plans were still being formulated but admitted he was working with his architect and Nextcolour Developments on the proposals. He wants to ensure the new top-floor restaurant fitted in well at the refurbished Tivoli Arcade, and with the local environment.

“I personally believe Mumbles has had many false starts, but I think that this time — with this and other developments — that it’s going to happen. We want to rekindle Mumbles’s former glory,” he told the South Wales Evening Post.

Mr Tercero took over the running of Spanish-themed La Braseria from his father Manuel, and later opened La Parrilla.

Community leaders in Mumbles are welcoming the development.  Community council vice-chairman Peter Birch said in September: “We have waited for this for a long time. I think it will be absolutely smashing.”

Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Crabb paid a visit to Mumbles to see its latest regeneration projects.

Mr Crabb visited the Mumbles Lifeboat boathouse, which opened earlier this year as part of a £11m revamp.

He also visited Oyster Wharf, Mumbles’ waterfront development, which will enhance and regenerate one of Wales’ most famous seaside destinations. Oyster Wharf will include restaurants, new retail stores and a spa/gym.

Mr Crabb welcomed the plans and said the development will be a significant step for Mumbles.

“The vision for the regeneration of Oyster Wharf is stunning. We need more developments of this quality to help secure a successful future for Wales’ tourism and leisure industries,” said Mr Crabb.

The finished development is set to become a destination for those looking to explore the history, heritage and beauty of Mumbles from surrounding areas and further afield.

Mr Crabb added: “Tourism is becoming an ever more competitive sector but developments like this will put Mumbles on the map and represent a legacy for future generations to enjoy.”

Nextcolour developer and director James Morse also commented saying: “We were delighted to see The Secretary of State for Wales visit Mumbles and discuss our proposed plans. His comments were inspiring and very supportive which have been consistent with the great support we’ve received from the local community since our plans were unveiled.”
